Schmeckfest: Food Traditions of Germans from Russia
Over the course of two centuries, wherever fate has swept them, the Germans from Russia have adapted and endured. This ethnic group’s resourceful self-sufficiency in growing and preparing food for their large families remains a rich legacy passed to future generations. In German Russian life, “food was love,” and prairie mothers are remembered daily in the recipes and rituals of food preparation. This documentary goes into the kitchens of several Germans from Russia and documents the food traditions and recipes of German-Russian people. The program looks at regional German-Russian food festivals, as well. (Instructional Resources does not have duplication rights to this program).
